Jury Verdict Victory in Retaliation Case

|

On March 10, 2022, Paul HarrisĀ of Shellist Lazarz Slobin LLP obtained a $150,000 jury verdict for Lorett Cuadra in a retaliation case against Declaration Title Company. Ms. Cuadra was the Branch Manager of Declaration Title Company's Memorial office. Ms. Cuadra reported to Julio Fernandez, President of Declaration Title Company, that another female employee at her branch was sexually harassed by a janitor contracted to clean the office. Ms. Cuadra alleged that Fernandez and CEO, Rick Heil, suddenly scrutinized her work, complained about her branch's performance, and created such a hostile work environment that Ms. Cuadra was forced to take medical leave. The Declaration Title Company terminated Ms. Cuadra after she informed them that she was going to file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). At trial, a jury determined that Declaration Title Company's actions constituted retaliation.
